Charge jump is a new technique in Mario Kart World that allows you to hop over obstacles like cars and animals.

Although charge jump sounds like a simple trick with limited uses, it’s a technique you’ll need to learn to make use of the other new techniques wall ride and rail ride. However, because it’s a new trick, it’ll definitely take some getting used to.

Here’s how to charge jump in Mario Kart World.

To charge jump in Mario Kart World, press and hold the R or ZR button while you’re driving in a straight line. When sparks appear on your rear wheels, let go of the R button to jump into the air and gain a small boost after you land on the ground.

Similar to drifting, charge jump can be held to get a stronger boost. There are three stages of charge jump, which can be identified by the color of the sparks by your rear tire — Blue, Orange, and Rainbow. If you charge your jump to a higher stage, your mini-turbo boost will be longer.

Additionally, if you hold a direction before you release your charge jump, you can jump in said direction.

When to use charge jump in Mario Kart World

There are three main uses for charge jump in Mario Kart World:

  • Jump over obstacles — Now that Grand Prix races include the trek to the next course, there are a lot of obstacles blocking your way like objects, other cars, and animals. You can also bounce off of objects to get a boost or, sometimes, coins.
  • Land on rails Use charge jump to land on rails and perform a rail ride. This can be especially useful when you need to avoid an item coming your way.
  • Drive on walls If you charge jump towards a wall, you’ll perform a wall ride. Wall rides will charge up a mini-turbo boost and possibly lead to different areas.

Now that you’ve learned how to charge jump, it’s time to master the other new techniques, wall ride and rail ride, or freshen up your drifting skills. Make sure to use rewind to save yourself some time!
