How to rail ride in Mario Kart World
X-Games mode

Rail ride is a new technique in Mario Kart World that allows you to grind on rails like you’re a pro skateboarder.
Rails are everywhere in Mario Kart World. There are standard rails, train tracks, power lines, and even dinosaurs just waiting for you to jump aboard. Rail ride is particularly useful because it builds up a mini-turbo, which will give you a temporary speed boost, and lead you towards a few hidden shortcuts.
Here’s how to rail ride in Mario Kart World.
How to rail ride in Mario Kart World

To rail ride in Mario Kart World, you’ll need to land on a rail, which can be done after you charge jump, wall ride, glide, use a feather, or even just drive onto it.
As you rail ride, you’ll build a mini-turbo, which will increase your speed and launch you forward. However, make sure to jump off of the rail or else you won’t use your mini-turbo!
Similar to drifts, rail rides will give you a stronger mini-turbo boost if you stay on a rail for a longer period of time.
When to rail ride in Mario Kart World
The main use for rail riding is to build a mini-turbo boost, so you can catch up to first or extend your lead.
One of the best times to rail ride is when a rail leads to a shortcut. Some of these shortcuts are very obvious like the power lines that cut across terrain, but some are hidden in plain sight. For example, a rail on the inner curve of a tight turn will be the shortest path and save you a bit of time.

Now that you’ve learned how to rail ride, it’s time to master the other new techniques, charge jump and wall ride, or freshen up your drifting skills. Make sure to use rewind to save yourself some time!
